Gasteiner mineral water springs from the depths of the unspoilt mountain world of the Hohe Tauern. With its balanced, fresh flavor, Gasteiner is one of Austria's most popular mineral water brands. The unspoilt nature of the Hohe Tauern gives the water its unmistakable purity and strength. Bubbling past
Gasteiner thermal water was first documented in 1327 as “drinking spa water.” Since then, for many centuries, Gasteiner thermal water has been enjoyed as a beverage.
The “Allerhöchste Familienfond Habsburg” acquired the “Thermalquellen zu Bad Gastein” and later leased them to the municipality in 1887. The municipality ultimately purchased the thermal springs in 1912.
At this point, local hoteliers initiated the first commercial use of Gasteiner water for drinking purposes. Together with a mineral water wholesaler and representatives from the City and Province of Salzburg, they founded a company.
This marks the founding year of the Gasteiner brand and the company Gasteiner Tafelwasser. From this point onwards, motifs inspired by the origins of Gasteiner have adorned the bottle design.
The first name change took place, and the water was renamed “Original Gasteiner Healing Table Water.”
Decades later, the name of the mineral water was adapted once again to reflect the times and was from then on sold under the name “Gasteiner Kristallklar.”
To further emphasise its alpine origin, the visual identity was refined. To this day, every Gasteiner bottle reflects the origin of the crystal-clear mineral water: the mountain landscape of Bad Gastein.
To give the brand a modern and contemporary look, Gasteiner underwent a comprehensive relaunch. Among other changes, a new design bottle was introduced for the hospitality sector. The distinctive bottle has received numerous awards (e.g. the Austrian State Prize for Exemplary Packaging, the HGV Practice Award, the Salzburg State Prize for Corporate Design, and the iF Product Design Award).
In spring 2019, three new refreshing drinks were launched in a format never before seen in this category: Gasteiner Lemon, Gasteiner Grapefruit and Gasteiner Orange in cans. Pure, sparkling water meets freshly squeezed fruit juice, combined in a convenient 0.33-litre can – a 100% natural refreshment for on the go. Due to the great success of the launch, the range was expanded over the following two years to include the apple and redcurrant varieties.
In 2024, the Gasteiner Infinity Music Tour took off on a grand scale following a successful pilot year, bringing live music, sampling tours and endlessly immersive moments to audiences across Austria.
