Salzburger Almenweg - from Dorfgastein to Kleine Scharte

This stage on the Salzburger Almenweg is ideal for anyone looking for a balanced combination of alpine romance and impressive panoramic views. The route leads over 9 kilometres through pristine high and low Alpine pastures and offers fantastic views of the Alpine mountains.

The starting point is in Dorfgastein. From there, the trail leads via the Walchalm, along a well-marked path to the Wetterkreuz and on to the Biberalm. The hike leads through an idyllic alpine landscape, past the Wiedner Alm and the Kerscher Alm to the Fundner Heimalm - a refreshment stop in the midst of beautiful nature invites you to take a break.

Afterwards, you cross the bridge over the Leidalmbach stream to the lowest point of the tour at 1,373 metres. The subsequent ascent leads along a shady forest path to the forest road and on to the Brandner Hochalm mountain hut - another opportunity for a short break before the final stage.

This follows the Almenweg trail no. 127A above the tree line. A steep climb leads to the saddle at 2,019 metres, where an impressive panorama awaits. From there, the route continues in a more relaxed manner: past small mountain lakes and through rocky landscapes, you finally reach the Kleine Scharte at 2,070 metres. Just a few minutes later is the mountain station of the Schloßalmbahn cable car - with an hourly descent in summer, this is a comfortable end to this eventful tour.
